What you are looking at

About 230 nautical miles southwest of Dutch Harbor, station 46072 represents the Central Aleutians on the Pacific side of the island chain. The water beneath this 3-meter discus buoy is roughly 3,589 meters (about 11,800 feet) deep, and the nearest islands lie out of sight to the north. The National Data Buoy Center owns and maintains it.

Vessels heading between the North Pacific and the Bering Sea thread the passes of the central Aleutians, and the fishing fleet based at Dutch Harbor and Unalaska works these waters for much of the year. Knowing what the wind and sea are doing south of the chain helps captains decide when to make a crossing. The buoy reports wind speed, gusts and direction, air pressure, air and water temperature, and wave height and period for National Weather Service forecasts.

Its BuoyCAM records a strip of photos facing several directions, generally about once an hour in daylight. The view is open sea and sky. Under the Aleutian Low in winter, expect gray skies, strong winds and big swells; summer brings calmer seas but plenty of fog. The buoy rocks with the sea, so the horizon often sits at an angle.
