What you are looking at

This 24/7 panda stream comes from iPanda, the giant panda channel of China's state broadcaster CCTV. It shows giant pandas at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Sichuan province, one of the largest panda centers in China, where iPanda says more than a hundred pandas live, with animals of different ages kept in separate enclosures.

Pandas spend much of the day eating bamboo and the rest sleeping, often draped over a tree branch or a wooden climbing frame. You may see young pandas tumbling and wrestling, adults munching steadily through piles of fresh bamboo, and keepers bringing food. Mornings at the base are usually the most active time, and in hot summer weather the pandas may retreat to cooler indoor areas. The broadcast can move between enclosures, so the pandas on screen change through the day.

The feed plays as live video through YouTube. Chengdu is on China Standard Time, twelve or thirteen hours ahead of the US East Coast. A practical tip: watch in the Chengdu morning, which is the US evening, for the best chance of active pandas and fresh bamboo deliveries.
