Live cameras in Málaga, Spain

Málaga is the main city of the Costa del Sol in Andalusia, on Spain’s southern Mediterranean coast. Its historic center lies between Gibralfaro hill, crowned by a castle, and the Guadalmedina river, with the eleventh-century Alcazaba fortress just below the castle walls. The city has about 590,000 residents, a busy port, an international airport and a reputation for mild weather, with roughly 300 days of sunshine a year.

More than 180 traffic cameras appear here as Málaga’s own. They combine the DGT, the national traffic directorate, with cameras run by the city itself. Expect views of urban avenues, roundabouts and the main ring roads: the MA-20, the original bypass along the western side of the city, and the newer A-7 that loops further inland around Málaga as part of the Mediterranean motorway. The images update every so often and are best read as recent snapshots.

Seasons and events

Málaga keeps Central European Time, switching its clocks forward for summer, so summer sunsets come late in the evening. Summers are hot and dry and the coastal roads fill with visitors; winters are mild, and most of the year’s rain falls in a handful of storms. Two events shape the city’s calendar more than any other. Holy Week, from Palm Sunday to Easter, brings processions with enormous floats through the streets of the center. In August the Feria de Málaga fills the old town and the fairgrounds with music and dancing for about a week, and traffic patterns change around both areas.

• Late evenings in summer stay bright for viewing
• Holy Week and the August Feria bring the biggest crowds
• Rainy winter days are rare but dramatic

The wider radius takes in Torremolinos, Benalmádena and other towns along the coast to the west, as well as the airport approaches south of the city.
