What you are looking at
See Jackson Hole (SeeJH) streams this camera from the summit area of Grand Targhee Resort, a ski resort on the western side of the Teton Range near the small town of Alta, Wyoming. From here the camera looks across high mountain terrain toward the jagged peaks of the Tetons, seen from the west, the side most visitors to Jackson never see.
Grand Targhee is known for heavy, dry snowfall, so in winter you may see deep powder, skiers and riders near the top lifts, and storms that can hide the peaks for days. Spring brings long sunny days and melting snow. In summer the slopes turn green and are used for hiking, mountain biking and wildflower walks, and autumn turns the hillsides gold and red. Morning light falls on the Tetons from the east, so the peaks may be backlit early and glow in the afternoon.
The feed plays as live video on YouTube. The resort is on Mountain time. A practical tip: check this camera before heading up on a winter day. If the summit is lost in cloud and blowing snow, it tells you more about conditions on the mountain than the forecast alone.
