Jackson Hole is a high mountain valley in northwest Wyoming, about 55 miles long and between six and thirteen miles wide, lying between the Teton Range to the west and the Gros Ventre Range to the east. The valley floor averages around 6,800 feet above sea level and the Snake River runs its full length. The town of Jackson, the valley's only incorporated community, sits at its southern end, with Grand Teton National Park to the north and Yellowstone beyond. Winters here are long and very cold, and the National Elk Refuge just outside town shelters thousands of elk until spring.
The four cameras on this page are live YouTube streams from See Jackson Hole, a local webcam network:
- Jackson Town Square, with one of its four arches built from shed elk antlers
- Snow King Mountain, the ski hill on the edge of town, from mid-mountain
- the summit of Grand Targhee Resort, on the far west side of the Tetons
- a wide view of the Grand Teton and its neighboring peaks
Snow King has been called the Town Hill since it opened as Wyoming's first ski area in 1939. The antlers in the square come from bull elk wintering on the refuge, which shed them each spring; local Scouts gather them and sell them at an auction held in the square in May. These are third-party streams, so a camera may go offline for maintenance or bad weather.
Jackson Hole is on Mountain Time, UTC-7 in winter and UTC-6 during daylight time from March to early November. Early morning and the last hour before sunset paint the Tetons best, and calm summer evenings are the clearest. Snow can arrive in October, ski season runs from late fall into spring, and fall color in the aspens and cottonwoods usually peaks in late September. Summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms over the peaks, and wildfire smoke can haze the views late in the season.
