MeteoSwiss runs this weather camera at Montagnola, on the Collina d'Oro hill just south-west of Lugano in the canton of Ticino, at about 495 meters. The panorama takes in the village houses and gardens, wooded hills, and a view down to Lake Lugano with its surrounding mountains. Montagnola is known as the village where the writer Hermann Hesse lived for many years.
This is the sunny south of Switzerland, with a mild climate, palm trees and a long growing season, but also heavy rain and thunderstorms when moist air flows in from the Mediterranean. You may see low clouds hanging over the lake and mountains, summer storms building in the afternoon, and crisp, clear days when a north wind blows over the Alps.
