Live cameras in Tuen Mun, Hong Kong

Tuen Mun is a large new town in the northwestern New Territories of Hong Kong, built from the 1970s onward around Castle Peak Bay and the Tuen Mun River, partly on reclaimed land. About 540,000 people live here today in high-rise estates that rise between green hills and the water. The area has very old roots, with Neolithic finds and village history going back centuries, and it is now home to Lingnan University, a busy town center and seaside spots such as Butterfly Bay Park, the largest waterfront park in the New Territories.

The 95 or so cameras for this place come from the Hong Kong Transport Department’s traffic camera service, which publishes still snapshots that update at regular intervals rather than live video. The main road in view is Tuen Mun Road, part of Route 9 and one of the oldest expressways in the territory, running about 19 kilometers to Tsuen Wan along the coast; its narrow early design made it famous for jams and led to a major rebuild from 2008 to 2015. Since late 2020, the Tuen Mun–Chek Lap Kok Link has added an undersea tunnel of about 5 kilometers toward the airport and the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge, and cameras near its approach roads may show that newer traffic pattern too.

Summer is hot, humid and rainy, and tropical cyclones can bring strong winds and closures, mainly from summer into early autumn. Winter is cooler and drier, with hazy days common, and spring often brings fog and low cloud over the bay.
