Live cameras in Orange, United States

Orange is a city of about 140,000 people in northern Orange County, California, roughly three miles north of the county seat, Santa Ana. It was first called Richland; when the post office rejected that name in 1873 because another Richland already existed, residents chose Orange, and the city incorporated in 1888. It is the only city in the county planned and built around a central plaza, and Old Towne Orange, about one square mile of Craftsman bungalows, Victorian homes and Spanish Colonial Revival storefronts around the Plaza fountain, is the largest National Register historic district in California. Antique shops, cafes and Chapman University give the old center a lively small-town feel, while the city's big employers include Children's Hospital of Orange County and the UC Irvine Medical Center.

Freeways on these cameras

All views here come from Caltrans, the California Department of Transportation, through its public camera feeds. Orange sits on one of Southern California's busiest freeway junctions: Interstate 5 and State Routes 22, 55 and 57 all serve the city, and the interchange where I-5 meets SR 57 and SR 22, known locally as the Orange Crush, ranks among the county's busiest. Our map assigns each camera to its nearest place, so this page collects views of these freeways and their ramps around the city. What appears is a photo that Caltrans replaces at short intervals.

Orange is on Pacific Time and switches to daylight time from March to November. The weather is mild most of the year, with morning marine clouds in late spring, the so-called May Gray and June Gloom, and dry Santa Ana winds in autumn that can raise wildfire danger in the hills to the east. In June the sun sets just after eight; in December, around a quarter to five. Freeway traffic peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, and Angels and Ducks games in neighboring Anaheim add evening crowds. Over Labor Day weekend the Orange International Street Fair fills the streets around the Plaza with food booths and music.

Disneyland and Angel Stadium are a short drive northwest in Anaheim, and the trails of Santiago Oaks Regional Park lie at the city's eastern edge.
