Live cameras in San Diego, United States

San Diego sits in the far southwestern corner of the United States, wrapped around San Diego Bay with the Mexican border just to the south. The city covers about 372 square miles of beaches, mesas and roughly two hundred deep canyons, and the San Diego River splits it into northern and southern halves. The 2020 census counted about 1.39 million residents, making it California’s second-largest city.

The cameras listed first here are Caltrans freeway cameras, published through the state’s CWWP2 feed for District 11. LiveLocation shows more than 90 of them inside the city. San Diego is laced with freeways, among them Interstate 5 along the coast, I-8 running east through Mission Valley, I-15 and I-805 heading north, and State Routes 163, 94 and 52. Views typically look along the lanes from an overpass or interchange, and each still frame is replaced every few minutes, so it is a good way to see traffic and sky conditions rather than a live broadcast.

Timing matters more than you might expect in a city famous for sunshine. In late spring and early summer a thick marine layer, locally called May Gray and June Gloom, often covers the coast in low grey cloud overnight and through the morning. It usually burns off by midday or early afternoon, and inland cameras tend to clear first, sometimes just five to ten miles from the water. May and June are actually the cloudiest months of the year here. Autumn and winter generally bring clearer air, and the city keeps Pacific Time.

Nearby, the radius can include cameras on the Coronado Bridge approaches and in neighboring cities such as Chula Vista and El Cajon. Just across the border lies Tijuana, one of the busiest crossings anywhere, and Balboa Park sits beside SR-163 near downtown.
