Live cameras in Chamartín, Spain

Chamartín is one of the twenty-one districts of Madrid, lying in the north of the city. It was a separate town, Chamartín de la Rosa, until it joined the capital in 1948. Today about 140,000 people live in its six wards, among them El Viso, Hispanoamérica and Prosperidad, in a compact area bounded by the Paseo de la Castellana to the west, the M-30 to the north and east, and the A-2 to the south. It is home to the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid’s stadium, the National Auditorium of Music and Chamartín, the city’s second-largest railway station.

LiveLocation lists more than 80 traffic cameras as Chamartín’s own. They are part of the same network that covers the whole capital: the DGT, Spain’s national traffic directorate, and the city of Madrid’s traffic cameras. Here they mostly watch the district’s edges, which happen to be some of the busiest roads in Spain, from the Castellana boulevard to the eastern stretch of the M-30 ring and the start of the A-2 toward Barcelona. Each image is updated periodically, so you may be looking at a still a few minutes old.

The district runs on Central European Time, switching to summer time (CEST) from late March to late October. Weekday commuting peaks are the liveliest moments on the Castellana and the M-30. Match days at the Bernabéu also change the picture, as crowds and extra traffic gather around the stadium in the hours before kickoff. In July and August the heat and the summer exodus make the roads calmer, and long June evenings keep the views in daylight well past 9 p.m.

Just north and west, the business towers around Plaza de Castilla mark the skyline, and the neighboring district of Ciudad Lineal lies across the M-30 to the east. The cameras of central Madrid and the outer ring roads appear further down this page as part of the wider radius.
