Live cameras in Coslada, Spain

Coslada is a city of about 80,000 people in the Community of Madrid, roughly twelve kilometers east of central Madrid in the Henares Corridor. Small for its population, at about twelve square kilometers, it is bordered on most sides by the municipality of Madrid and by San Fernando de Henares to the east. Coslada was a farming village until the 1960s, when it grew quickly as a commuter and industrial town, from fewer than four thousand residents in 1960 to many times that a few decades later. Its oldest quarter is El Casco, and its largest neighborhood is Ciudad 70, also known as Ciudad San Pablo. Coslada celebrates San Isidro Labrador on May 15, the same day as Madrid's patron saint holiday.

The city is one of Spain's great logistics hubs. It hosts the Dry Port of the Community of Madrid, a rail freight terminal and hundreds of logistics firms, helped by Madrid-Barajas Airport only a few kilometers to the north. That means heavy truck traffic, and much of it passes in front of the cameras.

The cameras

The cameras whose main place is Coslada combine DGT cameras on state roads with Madrid City Council's street cameras, all still images refreshed every few minutes. Look for the A-2 motorway between Madrid and Barcelona and the M-40 and M-45 ring roads, along with the junctions near the airport and the R-3 toll road, which all pass close to the city.

Coslada keeps Madrid time, UTC plus one in winter and plus two in summer. Commuter peaks toward Madrid run roughly from seven to half past nine in the morning, with the return in the early evening, while freight traffic stays steady through the working day. In June the sun sets around a quarter to ten; in December, before six. Summers are hot and dry, and winter mornings can bring frost and the occasional fog bank over the Henares plain.

Nearby, Metro Line 7 and Cercanías commuter trains link Coslada with central Madrid and with the university city of Alcalá de Henares farther east along the corridor.
