Live cameras in Vigo, Spain

Vigo is the largest city in Galicia, with about 295,000 residents, spread over the hills on the southern shore of the Ría de Vigo, a deep Atlantic inlet in the province of Pontevedra. It is one of Europe's leading fishing ports and an important industrial city, home to a large Stellantis car factory, and its working harbor fills much of the waterfront. Across the mouth of the ría, the Cíes Islands, part of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park, protect the bay with white sand beaches and cliffs, and boats carry visitors there in summer. From the hilltop park of O Castro, crowned by an old fortress, you can see the whole city, the port and the islands. In recent years Vigo has also become known for its huge Christmas light displays, which draw visitors from across Spain.

What the cameras show

Vigo's list is made up of DGT cameras, Spanish state traffic views that update every few minutes. Around Vigo they watch the AP-9 motorway, which crosses the ría on the long Rande Bridge toward Pontevedra and Santiago, the A-52 heading inland toward Ourense and Castile, and the A-55 running south toward Tui and the Portuguese border. Together they show the main approaches to the city, where traffic builds on weekday mornings and evenings and on summer weekends.

Vigo uses Central European Time, so mornings are dark until about nine in midwinter, and in June the sun sets after ten at night. The climate is milder and a little drier in summer than farther north in Galicia, but winters are rainy, and fog can cover the ría and the Rande Bridge on many mornings. During the Christmas lights season, from late November into January, evening traffic downtown is especially heavy.

Nearby, the beach of Samil lies along the city's southern shore, and the fortified border town of Tui, facing Valença in Portugal across the Miño river, is a short drive south.
