Live cameras in San Andrés del Rabanedo, Spain

San Andrés del Rabanedo is a municipality in the province of León, in Castile and León, northern Spain. It borders the city of León on the west and north, and in practice its main neighborhoods have grown into León's urban area, so many visitors never notice where one ends and the other begins. With close to 30,000 registered residents, it is the third most populous municipality in the province after León and Ponferrada. It lies at about 850 meters above sea level on the edge of the Bernesga valley.

The municipality is a group of distinct places rather than one town. Trobajo del Camino is the largest, followed by the seat at San Andrés, Villabalter, Ferral del Bernesga and the Pinilla neighborhood, which adjoins León directly. Much of the land beyond the built-up area is open cereal country, oak and pine woods, and about a third of the municipality is taken up by the Conde de Gazola military base. Pilgrims on the French Way of the Camino de Santiago walk through Trobajo del Camino as they leave León heading west.

The cameras listed here come from the DGT, Spain's national traffic authority, and they are linked to San Andrés because it is the closest place on the map. They cover the highways and ring roads on the western side of León, including the N-120, the old road toward Astorga that the Camino follows. Images are stills renewed every few minutes, and in winter they are a practical way to check for fog, frost or snow on the high plateau.

Clocks here run an hour ahead of Greenwich in winter and two hours ahead once Spain moves to summer time each spring. Winters are cold and often frosty, and summers are warm by day but cool at night because of the altitude. Late June evenings stay bright until almost ten. León's biggest party, the festival of San Juan and San Pedro, takes place at the end of June, and its Holy Week processions are among the best known in Spain.

León's Gothic cathedral, famous for its stained glass, and the Basilica of San Isidoro are only a few kilometers away in the city center.
