Live cameras in Taoyuan, Taiwan

Taoyuan District is the seat of Taoyuan City in northwestern Taiwan and, with about 476,000 residents in just 35 square kilometers, the most populous of the city's thirteen districts and the second most populous district in all of Taiwan. Before 2014 it was a county-administered city of its own; when Taoyuan County became a special municipality, it turned into the government center of the new city. It sits on the Taoyuan Plateau, crossed by the Nankan River, and is a dense, busy place of shopping streets, night markets and apartment towers. Landmarks include the Taoyuan Arts Center, Hutou Mountain Park on the hills at the edge of town, and several historic temples, among them the Jingfu Temple near the old center.

Roads under watch

Taoyuan's views are freeway and provincial highway cameras that the national transport ministry opens to the public. National Freeway 1 crosses the district with the Taoyuan interchange, also called South Nankan, at exit 49, and National Freeway 2 has its South Taoyuan interchange here on its way to the airport. Provincial Highway 1 runs through town along Zhongshan, Sanmin and Changshou roads, and Provincial Highway 4 crosses toward Bade and Daxi on one side and the airport on the other. Cameras are grouped by the closest town, so some sit just outside the district line. The feed for each one is a photo renewed several times an hour.

Taoyuan observes Taiwan time, UTC plus eight, year round. The climate is humid subtropical, with rain in every season: plum rains in May and June, typhoons in summer and early autumn, and the gray drizzle of the northeast monsoon in winter. Daylight lingers to about 6:45 on June evenings and is gone soon after 5 in the depth of winter. Weekday rush hours, flights out of the international airport and holiday travel all show up as traffic on the freeway ramps.

Taoyuan International Airport lies about a half hour to the northwest in Dayuan, and the new Green Line metro is being built through the district.
