What you are looking at
The Isle of Man Government publishes this webcam over Douglas Marina, the inner harbor of Douglas, the island's capital. The camera looks along the water toward the town, with yachts, motorboats and fishing boats moored at pontoons and along the quays, and a row of tall harborfront buildings, shops and houses lining both sides.
The marina is protected by a flap gate that holds water in the inner harbor at low tide, so boats stay afloat while the outer harbor drains. Through the day you may see boats coming and going, people walking along the quayside and traffic on the roads around the harbor. Summer brings more visiting yachts and longer evenings; winter brings early darkness, wind and rain. Calm mornings often give mirror-like reflections of the buildings in the water.
The image is a still picture that refreshes about every five minutes, time-stamped in the corner. A practical tip: watch around sunset on a clear evening, when the low light and the glow on the water make this one of the prettiest views among the island's webcams.
