The Isle of Man Government publishes this webcam at the Bungalow, high on the A18 Snaefell Mountain Road in the middle of the island. This camera looks out toward the Laxey Valley, and from the Bungalow the view takes in open moorland, the main road and the tracks of the Snaefell Mountain Railway, the electric tramway that crosses the road here on its way between Laxey and the summit of Snaefell, the island's highest point.
The Mountain Road is part of the TT motorcycle racing course, so during race weeks in late May and early June the area is closed to normal traffic and busy with racing. In spring and summer you may see the Snaefell trams cross. The upland weather changes fast: fog, low cloud and strong wind are common, and winter can bring snow and ice when the road is closed. Sunsets over the hills can be lovely.
The picture is a still image that refreshes about every five minutes, with the local time printed in the corner. A practical tip: if you plan to drive over the mountain, check this camera first. Fog at the Bungalow can be thick even when Douglas is bright and clear.
