What you are looking at
The Isle of Man Government publishes this webcam on Douglas Promenade, the long Victorian seafront of the island's capital. The camera looks along the promenade road, a roundabout and the seawall that curves around Douglas Bay, with hotels, apartments and newer buildings on one side and the water on the other.
Douglas Promenade runs for about two miles around the bay. You may see cars, buses and people walking or cycling along the seafront, and in season the horse trams of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway, one of the oldest of its kind in the world, travel along the promenade. During the TT races in late May and early June the promenade fills with motorcycles and visitors. The bay shows the weather well, from calm, shining water on summer evenings to grey waves crashing against the wall in winter storms.
The webcam shows still images that refresh about every five minutes, with the local time printed on the picture. A practical tip: check it on a windy day at high tide, when spray can come over the seawall, or on a clear evening for the soft light along the bay.
