What you are looking at
This FGC webcam sits high in the Cap de Comella sector of La Molina, in the Catalan Pyrenees, near the upper part of the resort at roughly 2,070 m. It looks down across wide, open mountain slopes dotted with pines, with ski runs cut through the forest, red safety netting along a slope, a small building and a service track in the valley, and rocky ground close to the camera.
La Molina, in the Cerdanya area near the town of Alp, is one of Spain's oldest ski resorts; it opened the country's first ski lift in 1943. Together with neighboring Masella it forms one of the largest ski areas in the eastern Pyrenees. In summer the same slopes are used for hiking, mountain biking and trail running, and the Cadí-Moixeró gondola carries visitors up to La Tosa d'Alp.
Expect a new still roughly every ten minutes. In winter, this view shows snow cover, grooming and how busy the upper runs are; spring brings patchy snow, and summer turns the slopes green and brown. Fog and storm clouds often roll over the ridges. Tip: on clear winter mornings this camera is a quick way to judge how much natural snow has fallen high on the mountain.
