What you are looking at
The Isle of Man Government publishes this webcam at Peel, the main town on the island's west coast. The camera looks along the breakwater that protects Peel's harbor, with fishing boats tied up beside the wall, the open Irish Sea on one side, and the green hills of the west coast curving away along the shore.
Peel is a fishing port known for Manx kippers and for Peel Castle, which stands on St Patrick's Isle at the harbor mouth, though the castle may be outside this view. You may see fishing boats coming and going, anglers and walkers on the breakwater and work on the harbor. Because Peel faces west, it is known as the sunset city of the island, and on clear evenings the sky over the sea can turn gold and red. Westerly gales send big waves against the breakwater in winter.
The picture is a still image that refreshes about every five minutes, with a time stamp in the corner. A practical tip: look at this view around sunset in the summer, when the sun goes down over the sea late in the evening, often after 9:30 p.m. local time around midsummer.
