Live cameras in Bragança, Portugal

Bragança is a hilltop city in the far northeast of Portugal, capital of its district and the main town of the Trás-os-Montes region. It lies about 255 kilometers northeast of Porto and only about twenty kilometers from the Spanish border. At the 2021 census the municipality had about 35,000 inhabitants, some 24,000 of them in the city itself. Its medieval citadel, enclosed by walls, holds a well-preserved castle keep and the Domus Municipalis, a rare Romanesque civic building. The city gave its name to the House of Braganza, the dynasty that ruled Portugal from 1640 until the monarchy ended in 1910. To the north, the Montesinho Natural Park protects mountain villages, chestnut woods and oak forests along the frontier.

They show still images refreshed every few minutes from roads across the border in the province of Zamora, such as the Sanabria district, where the A-52 motorway climbs through mountain country between Castile and Galicia. Those views are especially useful in winter, when snow and ice can affect the high passes. Portuguese roads around Bragança, including the A4 motorway toward Vila Real and Porto, are not covered by these cameras.

Keep the time difference in mind: Bragança uses Western European Time, the same as London, while the Spanish cameras across the border are one hour ahead on Central European Time. Winters in this upland region are cold, with frost common and snow possible, and summers are hot and dry. The longest days of June keep the light until after nine in the evening.
