Live cameras in Valencia, Spain

Valencia is Spain's third-largest city, with about 800,000 residents, set on the Mediterranean coast where the old course of the Turia river once reached the sea. After a disastrous flood in 1957, the river was diverted south of the city and its former bed became the Jardín del Turia, a green park that curves for about nine kilometers through the center and ends at the City of Arts and Sciences, the futuristic complex designed largely by Santiago Calatrava. The old town has the cathedral, the Gothic silk exchange called La Lonja, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the bustling Central Market. South of the city, the Albufera lagoon and its rice fields are the home of paella. In October 2024 severe flash floods struck towns to the south and west of the city, a reminder of how intense autumn storms can be here.

The cameras

In Valencia the views come from the national traffic authority, the DGT, which renews each still image every few minutes. They follow the metropolitan motorways and state roads that carry traffic around and into the city, such as the V-21 to the north, the V-30 along the new river channel, the V-31 south toward the Albufera and the A-7 bypass inland. The views are handy for checking rush-hour backups, accidents or heavy rain.

• Fallas: mid-March, with giant figures burned on the night of March 19
• Summer: busy beach traffic on weekends and in August
• Autumn: the season for sudden heavy downpours

The city's clocks follow Central European Time. Weekday rush hours run roughly from half past seven to half past nine and from six to eight in the evening. The climate is mild in winter and hot and humid in summer, and around the June solstice daylight lasts until about half past nine.

Nearby, the long beaches of La Malvarrosa and Las Arenas lie along the coast east of the center, and the Albufera Natural Park, with sunset boat trips on the lagoon, is about fifteen kilometers south.
