Arroyo Grande is a small city in southern San Luis Obispo County, about two miles inland from the Pacific, with about 18,400 residents in the 2020 census. It grew up as a farm town on old rancho land and incorporated in 1911, and fields of vegetables and strawberries still fill the valley around it. The heart of town is the Village, a few blocks of historic storefronts beside Arroyo Grande Creek, crossed by a swinging pedestrian bridge about 171 feet long that was restored in 2024. Together with Grover Beach, Pismo Beach, Oceano and Shell Beach it forms the Five Cities area, and the Oceano Dunes lie just to the southwest.

The cameras on this page are Caltrans highway cameras along U.S. Route 101, which runs straight through Arroyo Grande on its way between San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria. Caltrans publishes them as still snapshots that refresh every few minutes, which makes them useful for spotting traffic slowdowns, rain or a fog bank rolling over the freeway. The page also includes a NOAA BuoyCAM, a camera on an offshore weather buoy along the Central Coast. It shoots six frames that together show the whole horizon in a 360-degree strip, roughly once an hour and only while the sun is up.

Local time is Pacific Time, UTC-8 in winter and UTC-7 during daylight time from March to early November. The Five Cities share the classic Central Coast pattern: a marine layer that often hangs over the coast on late spring and summer mornings, clearer and warmer weather in September and October, and most of the rain between November and March. For a sunset over the ocean, the buoy camera's last daylight frames of the evening are worth a look.

Farther south on our map, Lompoc and Isla Vista in Santa Barbara County carry more Caltrans views and buoy cameras off the coast, and to the north the Monterey Peninsula pages add the Monterey Bay Aquarium streams.
