Cameron Park is an unincorporated community, a census-designated place, in western El Dorado County, California. It lies in the Sierra Nevada foothills about thirty miles east of Sacramento, between the suburbs of El Dorado Hills and the gold rush town of Placerville, at an elevation of roughly 1,200 to 1,450 feet. The 2020 census counted about 18,900 residents. Local services are handled by a community services district rather than a city government.

The community began in the 1950s and 1960s when Larry Cameron bought several thousand acres of ranch land and started building homes. One of its most unusual corners is the Cameron Park Airpark, a residential neighborhood built around a runway, where the streets double as taxiways and many houses have hangars instead of garages. Cameron Park Lake, a small lake with a park and beach, is the setting for summer events and fishing.

Route 50 in the foothills

Caltrans operates every camera listed for Cameron Park, mostly along U.S. Route 50, the freeway that runs through the community on its way from Sacramento up to Placerville and over Echo Summit to South Lake Tahoe. Each one uploads a single frame, refreshed after a few minutes. Weekend traffic to and from Tahoe can be heavy here, especially on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons in ski season and summer, and these views show how the freeway is moving through the foothills.

The foothills keep California's clock, which jumps ahead one hour in March and falls back on the first Sunday of November. Summers are hot and dry, with afternoons often between 90 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit, while winters are cool and damp; snow falls only occasionally at this elevation, though chain controls are common higher up on Route 50. Summer light lingers over the foothill oaks until about half past eight, whereas December evenings arrive a little before five.

Shingle Springs lies just to the east, and beyond Placerville the orchards of Apple Hill draw crowds every fall for apples, pies and cider. Folsom Lake is a short drive to the northwest.
