MeteoSwiss runs this weather camera at Murg, on the southern shore of the Walensee in the canton of St. Gallen, at about 432 meters. The panorama looks across the deep blue lake to the great limestone cliffs of the Churfirsten range rising almost straight out of the water, with green slopes behind the village and the railway line along the shore in the foreground.
The Walensee lies on the main route between Zurich and Graubünden, and MeteoSwiss uses this camera to watch the weather along flight routes through the valley. Strong winds can funnel along the lake, raising waves, while calm days give still water and mirror-like reflections of the cliffs. You may see low clouds draped over the Churfirsten, fresh snow on the peaks in autumn and spring, and clear days with bright light on the rock. Trains pass regularly along the shore, though they are small in the frame.
