Kelowna is the largest city in the Okanagan Valley, spread along the east shore of Okanagan Lake in British Columbia's southern interior. The 2021 census counted about 145,000 people in the city and about 222,000 in the metropolitan area, making it one of the fastest-growing regions in Canada. The name comes from a Syilx word for grizzly bear, and the Syilx people were the valley's first inhabitants. Today Kelowna is known for wineries and orchards, beaches along the lake, the UBC Okanagan campus and a busy international airport. Knox Mountain Park, north of downtown, gives the classic view over the city and lake. Wildfire is part of recent history: the 2003 Okanagan Mountain Park fire destroyed homes in the south end, and the McDougall Creek fire in 2023 forced evacuations across the lake.

The DriveBC views linked to Kelowna center on Highway 97, the valley's spine. It crosses Okanagan Lake on the William R. Bennett Bridge, a five-lane floating bridge opened in 2008 that links downtown with West Kelowna, which explains the bridge views on this page. Highway 33 leaves the city eastward, climbing toward Big White, and a few cameras sit at weather stations up in the hills above the lake. A newer photo replaces each one every few minutes. The bridge and the highway through the city are busiest on weekday commutes and summer weekends.

Kelowna uses UTC minus seven all year after British Columbia's 2026 decision to stop changing clocks. Around the winter solstice the sun rises close to nine and sets after five. Summers are hot, dry and sunny, with long evenings over the lake, but late-summer smoke can blur the views. Winters are cool and cloudy, with inversions that trap gray skies in the valley while the ski hills above enjoy sunshine.

Peachland and Summerland lie south along the lake, and Big White Ski Resort is about an hour's drive east.
