Shorewood is a village in Troy Township, Will County, Illinois, sitting on the DuPage River just west of Joliet and about thirty-nine miles southwest of the Chicago Loop. It has grown quickly into a busy suburb; the 2020 census counted about 18,000 residents, and the village has kept growing since. The Shorewood-Troy Public Library and parks along the river give it a small-town center, while shopping and services cluster along the main highways.

Its location explains why so many traffic views land here. The village advertises itself as being next to the junction of Interstate 55 and Interstate 80, two of the busiest freight corridors in the country, and it has two interchanges on I-55 of its own. U.S. Route 52 and Illinois Route 59 meet in the heart of the village, and Route 59 ends at I-55 at an interchange shared between Shorewood and Joliet.
