Live cameras in Woodridge, United States

Woodridge is a young village in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, mostly in DuPage County with small pieces in Will and Cook counties. It was incorporated in 1959 with fewer than five hundred residents, the creation of housing developer Albert Kaufman, and nearly everything here was built after the 1950s. The name refers to the wooded slope above the DuPage River valley that locals called The Ridge. By 2020 the head count had reached about 34,000. Parks and recreation are a big part of village life, from the Cypress Cove water park to the Seven Bridges area with its golf course, offices and cinema. The Home Run Inn pizza company is based here as well.

Two interstates frame the village. Interstate 355, the Veterans Memorial Tollway, runs along its west side, and Interstate 55 crosses the southern edge. Illinois Route 53 and the old alignment of Route 66 pass through too, so traffic flows in every direction around Woodridge.

The cameras

IDOT operates the Woodridge cameras, and they reach the map through Gateway, the state's traveler information feed also seen on Travel Midwest. Each one is a still frame refreshed every few minutes, aimed at tollway and expressway lanes, interchanges and ramps around this corner of DuPage County. They are useful for a quick look at backups where I-355 meets I-55, or for checking road conditions after a snowfall.

The area is on Central Time. The busiest pictures come on weekday mornings between about seven and nine and again in the late afternoon. Winters bring regular snow, and the region can also see severe thunderstorms in late spring and summer; a strong tornado damaged more than two hundred homes here in June 2021. On clear summer evenings, daylight lingers until around half past eight.

Not far away, Morton Arboretum in Lisle offers forest trails and seasonal light shows, and downtown Naperville's Riverwalk lies a few miles to the west.
