Bloomingdale is a village in northern DuPage County, Illinois, about twenty-five miles northwest of downtown Chicago, with about 22,400 residents in 2020. It is one of the oldest settlements in the county. The Meacham family arrived in 1833, and the place was first called Meacham's Grove, a stop for stagecoaches and westbound travelers on the Chicago to Galena road, now Lake Street. The settlement began in Cook County and became part of DuPage in 1839, and in 1923 the busier northern end split away to form the village of Roselle.

Old Town Bloomingdale, where Lake Street meets Bloomingdale Road, keeps restored buildings at the site of the first settlement. For decades Stratford Square Mall was the village's best-known landmark, but it closed in 2024 and has since been torn down to make room for redevelopment. Bloomingdale also has a footnote in legal history: the Supreme Court case Illinois v. Gates began with an anonymous letter sent to the local police.

The Chicago area runs on Central Time. Morning and evening rush hours are the busiest, and snowstorms coming off the prairie can make roads slick, especially during the first cold snaps of December. Summer afternoons can bring sudden thunderstorms, while long June evenings stay light past eight thirty.

Neighboring Roselle and Glendale Heights are just north and south, and the forest preserves along Meacham Grove offer woodland trails close to the old village center.
