North Liberty is a city in Johnson County, Iowa, just north of Iowa City and Coralville in the Iowa City metropolitan area. It had about 20,500 residents at the 2020 census, after years as one of the fastest-growing cities in the state. Settlers John Gaylor and Alonzo Dennison arrived in 1838, the town was platted in 1857 and incorporated in 1913 with fewer than two hundred people. Its growth came with the University of Iowa and the Interstate 380 corridor to Cedar Rapids, and it regularly appears on lists of well-educated Midwestern towns. A dish of the Very Long Baseline Array radio telescope stands on farmland northeast of the city, and Coralville Lake and the Iowa River lie just to the north and east.
